SEEMS GREEN VERSUS TRUE GREEN: according to Parade Magazine. Make sure your efforts are doing what you want them to.
SEEMS GREEN: Paper shopping bags instead of plastic.
TRUE GREEN: Sturdy reusable totes
Instead of adding to the heaps of biodegradable waste, start reusing products.
SEEMS GREEN: Organic processed snacks.
TRUE GREEN: Snacking on whole foods that are organically grown.
All processed and repackaged foods require huge amounts of energy to produce.
SEEMS GREEN: Redecorating with eco-friendly furniture.
TRUE GREEN: Refurbishing, refinishing and reupholstering used (yours or someone else’s) furniture.
This can save up to 95% of the energy required to make new furniture.
SEEMS GREEN: A hybrid SUV.
TRUE GREEN: Driving less and using a small hybrid.
A typical hybrid SUV is about half as fuel efficient as a hybrid compact.
SEEMS GREEN: Clothing made from bamboo.
TRUE GREEN: Classic, timeless pieces made from quality fabrics.
Bamboo is renewable, but energy intensive…better to get more from each piece.
SEEMS GREEN: Recycling plastic water bottles.
TRUE GREEN: Drink tap water.
Out of 70 million water bottles disposed yearly, fewer than 15% are recycled.
